In an era of declining attendance and institutional uncertainty, insights from Methodist history hold the key to renewal and a radical willingness to adapt. These trying times call for a dynamic, interconnected approach that meets people where they are with God’s liberating love. Drawing from Wesley’s innovative responses to 18th century challenges that mirror today’s struggles– loneliness, inequality, institutional stagnation– we’ll explore a method that can work in our digital age drawing on the new book “Calling on Fire.”
When we surrender comfortable traditions for what Wesley called “vile” innovation, we can restore the Methodist’s movement’s prophetic edge. When love spins outward from authentic community into sacrificial service, disciples multiply and the world changes.
Main Street United Methodist Church celebrates that all persons are created in God’s image and are of sacred worth. We are a faith community that welcomes and affirms persons of every age, race, culture, sexual orientation, gender identity, family configuration, religious background, economic status, or developmental and physical ability. We welcome all who seek to love God and neighbor.
We're excited to share with you a new resource by Parents Reconciling Network for parents and caregivers of LGBTQ+ young people seeking to start a support group in their church or community.
Change happens community by community, church by church, family by family. To create a community of love and inquiry is an act of ministry, and we're glad we get to partner with you in that endeavor. This work is life-changing, maybe even life-saving!
